Terms of Use

The rules for using africanpridemagazine.com, submitting a marketplace listing, sending us something for publication, or listening to Africanpride Radio. Last updated October 2026.

The short version, in plain language. Read the site, share the links, quote us with credit. Do not republish our work wholesale or pretend to be us. Marketplace listings are free, and we publish what you tell us about your business without checking it — so do not tell us anything untrue. Anything you send us for publication may be edited, published, broadcast and archived. Advertising is always labelled and never buys coverage. We answer corrections. Alberta law governs, and these terms do not take away rights you have under consumer protection legislation.

1. Who these terms are between

This website at africanpridemagazine.com is published by African Pride Magazine ("we", "us", "our"), an independent publisher of an online magazine, the Africanpride Radio programming and a business directory, edited from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Our registered business name and business number are published on the About page and in the site footer.

By using this site — reading it, submitting a form, sending us material, or listening to the radio stream — you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. If you are using the site on behalf of a business or organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these terms for it.

2. What this site is, and what it is not

We publish journalism, commentary, interviews, guides, photographs, radio programming and a directory of businesses. Some of it is opinion, clearly labelled as such, and opinion is not a statement of fact. Some of it is general information written to help you ask the right questions.

None of it is professional advice. Nothing on this site is legal, immigration, tax, accounting, medical or financial advice, and nothing here creates a professional relationship of any kind. Our guides describe how things generally work, and rules, fees and thresholds change. Before you act on anything you read here, check it with a qualified professional or with the government body that administers it.

We aim to be accurate and we correct our mistakes. We do not warrant that everything on the site is accurate, complete or current at the moment you read it.

3. Using the site

You may read, browse, print and share this site for your own use. Please do not:

  • copy, republish, resell or systematically extract the site or a substantial part of it, including by automated scraping, without our written permission;
  • interfere with the site, overload it, probe it for vulnerabilities, or attempt to gain access to any part of it or its systems that you are not authorised to access;
  • impose a burden on our hosting disproportionate to normal reading — including bulk downloading of every image or page;
  • present our content as your own, or present yourself as connected with us when you are not;
  • use the site to break any law, to harass anyone, or to distribute malicious code;
  • use automated means to submit forms, or submit forms repeatedly with false information.

We may suspend or block access where we reasonably believe these rules are being broken, and we may report unlawful activity to the appropriate authority. Search engines may index the site in the ordinary way.

4. Copyright, trade marks and quoting us

The text, photographs, illustrations, page designs, code and radio programming on this site are owned by us or used with permission, and are protected by copyright. The Adinkra symbols reproduced on this site are traditional Akan designs and are not owned by anyone; the drawings of them here are ours.

You may quote from an article or a page, provided the quotation is genuinely short and is attributed to African Pride Magazine with a link to the page you took it from. You may not reproduce a whole piece, a photo essay, or a substantial part of our reporting, and you may not use our name, our marks or our visual identity in a way that suggests we have endorsed you, a product, a business or a cause.

Third-party names and logos that appear on this site belong to their owners and are used only to refer to them. We do not accept advertising that consists of a third party's logo presented as our endorsement.

If you believe something on this site infringes your copyright, write to us with the details set out in section 13 below. Canada's copyright notice-and-notice provisions apply to material hosted on our systems.

5. Marketplace listings

The marketplace directory is free. There is no listing fee, no renewal charge, no commission on work you win because a reader found you here, and no paid placement that ranks above a free listing.

If you submit a listing, you confirm that you are the business, or that you have that business's permission to submit on its behalf, and that everything you tell us is accurate and not misleading. That last point matters legally, not just editorially: under Canada's Competition Act, making a materially false or misleading representation to the public is prohibited, and the responsibility for what a listing says rests with the business that supplied it.

You also agree that you will not submit:

  • a business that does not exist, or details you know to be out of date;
  • a pyramid scheme, a chain letter, a get-rich-quick scheme, or an unregistered investment or cryptocurrency offering;
  • claims of professional qualification, licence or registration the business does not hold;
  • medical, legal, immigration or financial claims that the business is not licensed or permitted to make;
  • text, images or logos copied from someone else's website or advertising;
  • anything unlawful, discriminatory, or sexual in nature, or anything promoting weapons, hate or harassment.

We may edit a listing for length, spelling and clarity; refuse a listing; or remove a listing at any time, including without telling you why. We may keep a record of a submission we have declined, as described in the Privacy Policy.

A listing is not an endorsement, recommendation or verification. We do not inspect premises, check licences, test services or vouch for quality. Everything in the directory is the business describing itself. Any dispute over work, payment, deposits or refunds is between you and that business, and not with us.

6. Material you send us

This section covers story tips, corrections, letters, comments, radio announcements, photographs, video and any other material you send us through the site, by email or by any other means. It does not change anything in section 5, which governs listings.

When you send us material for publication, you keep the copyright in it, and you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to publish, edit, adapt, translate, broadcast and archive it, in any medium, with or without your name. That licence lasts as long as we keep the material on the site or in our records. You can end it for future use by asking us to, and where we can, we will take the material down.

You confirm that the material is yours to send, or that you have the rights and permissions needed; that it is true as far as you know; and that if it identifies or shows another person — including in a photograph — you have their agreement to send it to us for publication. Do not send us a photograph of someone else's child, or of a private event, without permission from a person who can give it.

We are not obliged to publish anything, and we may edit for length, clarity and legal risk. Editing will not change what you told us the facts to be. We may keep a copy of material we do not publish, including to answer a complaint later.

Please do not send us confidential information, trade secrets, or anything you would be harmed by disclosing. We treat unsolicited material as non-confidential unless we have agreed otherwise in writing and in advance.

7. Radio announcements

Africanpride Radio's noticeboard is free to use. When you send an announcement, you are asking us to read it aloud on a public broadcast that anyone can hear.

You confirm that the announcement is accurate and that you have the right to send it — in particular, that you have the permission of the family for a birth, funeral or tribute announcement. We may shorten an announcement to fit a programme slot, and we cannot guarantee that any announcement will be broadcast at a particular time or at all. You are responsible for anything defamatory, unlawful or misleading in an announcement you send.

If you want an announcement withdrawn, write to the radio desk. We will stop repeating it, but we cannot erase a broadcast that has already happened.

8. Advertising and sponsored content

Advertisers buy space on this site and airtime on the station. They do not buy coverage, and they never see a story before it is published. Advertising, sponsored content and commercial partnerships are labelled as such wherever they appear, including on air.

We will not publish an advertisement that is misleading, that breaks section 5, or that would compromise the independence of our editorial judgement. Rates and available formats are available on request through the contact page.

9. Links to other services

This site links to services we do not control: social media platforms, Google Maps, and the font files our pages fetch from Google's servers. Those services have their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their content, availability or handling of your information. A link is not an endorsement, and neither is fetching a font.

10. No warranty

The site is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranty that the site will be available without interruption, that it will be free of errors or harmful code, or that any information on it is accurate, complete or suitable for a particular purpose. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site at any time, including a directory listing.

11. Our liability to you

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for loss of profit, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the site or from anything published on it, including a marketplace listing or a radio announcement.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including under Alberta's consumer protection legislation or the Competition Act. If you are a consumer in Alberta or elsewhere in Canada, you may have rights that these terms do not and cannot remove.

12. Your responsibility to us

If a claim is made against us because of something you sent us, or because of the way you used the site, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of defending and settling it. We will tell you promptly if that happens, and we will not settle a claim in a way that admits fault on your part without asking you first.

13. Copyright complaints

If you believe material on this site infringes your copyright, send us a written notice that identifies the work, identifies the material complained of and where it is, gives us your name, address, telephone number and email, states that you have a good faith belief the use is not authorised, and states that the information in your notice is accurate. Send it to the address on the contact page, marked for the attention of the publisher. We will act as Canadian copyright law requires, and we may forward your notice to the person who posted the material.

14. Corrections and complaints

If something we published is wrong, tell us and we will look at it. Write to the desk named on the piece, or use the contact form, and include the page address and the sentence you are disputing. Where we have made an error we correct it and note the correction on the piece, dated. Where we conclude we were right, we will tell you that too, and why.

Complaints about how we have handled your personal information follow a different route, set out in the Privacy Policy, and can ultimately be taken to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

15. Privacy

How we collect, use, store and disclose personal information — including what happens to a form you submit and what the site stores in your browser — is set out in the Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy. Those documents form part of these terms.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page will change when we do, and the current version always governs your use of the site. If a change is significant, we will say so on the page rather than quietly editing it. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

17. Which law applies

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of Alberta have jurisdiction over any dispute — except that a consumer may also be entitled to bring a claim in their own local courts, and nothing here prevents that.
